Let’s look at our changing view of humor with anecdotes from English history and American politics. 

Why Did The Vasa Sink? by Dr. Dick and Mary Jane Fairley

A newly constructed Swedish battleship, the Vasa, sank in 1628 when a light breeze luffed the sails.  The disaster occurred shortly after the ship was launched and only a short distance from the dock.  Who knew that the building of the Vasa was unstable and likely to sink?

UNESCO and Worldwide Cultural Heritage, by Julia Hargrove

In addition to protecting unique physical sites around the world, UNESCO began in the early 2000s to preserve traditional cultural skills, rituals, and knowledge.
