The book James was the winner of the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for
Fiction. Percival Everett’s reimagining of Mark Twain’s
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is told from the perspective of
the enslaved Jim. But who is Percival Everett and what does his
work say about race and identity in America? Focusing on two of
Everett’s most notable novels, Erasure and James, this session
invites readers to take a closer look at the author and his unique
contributions to contemporary American fiction.
