In this presentation, we will explore the people, forts, system of trade, and certain events of the settling of the West. You will learn about the explorers, such as Zeb Pike, trappers and traders, such as St. Vrain and Beckworth, and the Bent Brothers from Bent’s Fort. We will also talk about Forts Garland and Lupton and the entertainments of the mountain men’s spring rendezvous.


Julia Hargrove: MA in American History from the University of Texas at Austin and BA with a double major in History and English from WSC (now WSCU) in Gunnison, Colorado.
